Maison Lineti was a French malt-whisky project at Les Artigues-de-Lussac near Bordeaux. It used wine-making techniques in fermentation and planned to release separate vintages at several ages. The original WCC article also promoted a small cask allocation. That offer has been removed. The Spirits Business reported in July 2025 that the company had entered liquidation after its main backer withdrew.

Production borrowed methods from wine

Maison Lineti’s official site describes a distillery founded by people from the fine-wine trade. Dr Magali Picard, a chemical engineer with a doctorate in oenology, led whisky production. The plant used egg-shaped concrete fermentation vessels rather than standard wooden or stainless-steel washbacks.

Concrete eggs are familiar in wine production. Their shape can keep liquid moving during fermentation and increase contact with the lees, the spent yeast and other solids left after fermentation. Lineti also tested longer fermentation and malolactic conversion. These choices were intended to change aroma, texture and acidity before distillation.

The distillery used open-fire Charentais pot stills. Its spirit was French, not Scotch. The Scottish rules on production and maturation did not apply, and descriptions such as “France’s Scotch” were inaccurate. The whisky-making guide explains the general stages, but each country’s rules and each producer’s records must be checked separately.

The vintage and chapter plan

Lineti planned to treat each production year as a separate vintage. The same vintage would be released in chapters after three, five, eight, ten and twelve years in cask. This would allow drinkers to compare the effect of additional maturation on spirit from one year.

That plan described intended releases, not an assured commercial outcome. Young spirit changes during maturation, and a release still depends on the producer, stock, finances, packaging, distribution and legal approvals. Buyers should not convert a production timetable into a forecast of demand or price.

The official site remains online and describes the project’s methods. It does not remove the need to check the later company position reported by the trade press.

The 2025 liquidation report changed the risk

The Spirits Business reported on 7 July 2025 that Maison Lineti had entered liquidation and was seeking a buyer after its main investor withdrew. The founders told the publication that the whiskies had not yet reached the market and that they hoped another investor would restart the project.

This is material information for anyone who bought or considered buying a cask. Liquidation can affect control of the company, contracts, access to stock, insurance, storage payments and future bottling. An old marketing page or certificate cannot answer those questions.

This article does not state that the distillery has restarted or that casks are available. A current claim would require current company, administrator and custodian evidence.

Records past cask buyers should obtain

An existing buyer should identify the legal entity named in the contract and ask the liquidator or administrator to confirm how the claimed cask is treated. The documents should identify the cask number, fill date, spirit, wood, warehouse or storage site, current custodian, recorded bulk litres and alcohol strength.

The buyer should also ask who pays storage and insurance, whether the cask can be sampled, moved or bottled, and which law governs the contract. Any right to use the Maison Lineti name on a label must be confirmed separately. A physical cask can exist while contractual rights, custody or naming permission remain disputed.
